A Federal High Court sitting in Ekiti State has granted a bail of N50 million to a prominent human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi.
The court’s decision, made on Monday, stipulated that Farotimi must secure one surety who is required to present several important documents. These include evidence of two years of tax clearance, land ownership documents, and a letter of authorization from a telecommunications provider.
The New Diplomat reports that the legal case revolves around allegations of defamation and cybercrime, prompting significant public interest.
The court has scheduled the next hearing for January 29, 2025, allowing time for further proceedings in this matter.
This comes after Farotimi was arrested and arraigned before a Magistrate court in Ekiti over alleged defamatory contents in his book.
The book which was published on July 2, 2024, discussed the alleged corruption in Nigeria’s judicial system.
