The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, on Saturday met with the President-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, in Florida.
The meeting comes amid Trump’s threat to increase import tariffs when he is sworn in as the President of the US in January 2024.
Addressing the press after the meeting, Trudeau said he had an “excellent conversation” with Trump.
The New Diplomat reports that this is the latest high-profile personality to have a meeting with Trump.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum spoke with Trump by phone on Wednesday.
The conversation was said to be about the tariff increment threat.
After the conversation, Trump claimed that Mexico’s left-wing president had “agreed to stop migration through Mexico, and into the United States, effectively closing our Southern Border.”
It would be recalled that in a social media post on Monday, Trump said he would slap a 25 per cent tariff on Mexico and Canada, accusing the two US neighbours of allowing an “invasion” of the United States by illicit drugs, namely fentanyl, and undocumented migrants.
