Rwanda’s men’s national team made history on Monday after defeating the Super Eagles of Nigeria in a 2-1 win at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom.

Rwanda recorded their first-ever win over Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Though the Super Eagles had already secured qualification for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco, the Rwandans came with the hope of joining Nigeria in Group D.

After the goalless first half, Nigeria took the lead in the 59th minute through a fine solo goal from Samuel Chukwueze.

However, the Rwandans replied with two quick goals from Ange Mutsinzi and Innocent Nshuti to claim their first-ever win over Nigeria.

Despite the victory, Rwanda fell short of AFCON qualification as Benin Republic won the second qualifying spot in the group after holding Libya to a 0-0 draw.
