Says Ex-Gov Is A Fake Activist, wasn’t part of Pro-Democracy Struggle

By Hamilton Nwosa

Founder of Sahara reporters and prominent human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore has lashed at former Edo State Governor , Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, describing him as a fake activist.

The founder of Sahara reporters who was reacting to a question during a TV interview accused the former Labour leader of allegedly working with past leaders including late Gen Sanni Abacha’s government to inflict damaging economic policies on Nigeria and Nigerians.

He said: “ Quote me. Oshiomhole was never an activist. He was never arrested by the military and he was living in Abuja when all activists and prodemocracy activists have fled. Oshiomhole and Paschal Bafya were in connivance with Abacha…”

Sowore added: “ Oshiomhole will go and meet Obasanjo and say Baba, increase the cost of fuel up to this level… we will demonstrate a little to make noise and then you bring it to this level… You are happy and we are happy …”

Recall that following the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential elections won by late business mogul, late Chief MKO Abiola, the prodemocracy community came together under the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) led by firebrand first Republic nationalist who moved the historic motion for Nigeria’s independence on the floor of parliament in 1953, Chief Anthony Enahoro. Enahoro, a former first Republic nationalist and parliamentarian and the youngest Nigerian to ever edit a national newspaper in Nigeria’s history was also a former federal
Minister of Information during the regime of General Yakubu Gowon.

Other members of the NADECO at the time included Papa Alfred Rewane, Senator Abraham Adesanya, Chief Frank Kokori, Air Commodore Dan Suleiman, Rear Admiral Ndubisi Kanu, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu( as he then was), second republic governor of Kwara State, Chief Cornelius Olatunji Adebayo, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, Prof Bolaji Akinyemi, Chief Lulu Briggs, Col Abubakar Umar, Chief Frank Ovie Kokori, Dr Chukwuemeka Ezeife, former Governor ofAnambra state, Rev Fr Moses Adasu, former Governor of Benue state, Chief Ayo Opadokun, amongst others.

But Sowore while speaking on the issue said Oshiomhole was conspicuously missing from the list “because he was never an activist.”
