Senator Monday Okpbhelo, has been sworn in as the new elected governor of Edo State.

Also sworn-in as deputy governor was Denise Idahosa.

Both the new governor and his deputy were sworn-in by the Chief Judge of the State, the state, Justice, Daniel Okongbowa.

Okpebholo’s predecessor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, was apparently absent at the ceremony which took place at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium on Tuesday. This was on account of the fact that the newly sworn in governor did not extend an invite to his immediate predecessor.

The governor and his deputy pledged to uphold the constitution, work within its dictates, and ensure the well-being of the people of the state.

Supporters of the party at the stadium cheered throughout the oath-taking ceremony, marking the beginning of a new administration in the state.

Sen. Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had defeated the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Barr. Asue Ighodalo and that of the Labour Party Barr. Olumide Akpata, in the September 21 governorship election.
