A devastating fire broke early on Wednesday, along the Ibafo axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, leading to the destruction of vehicles, properties, and livestock.

The fire was triggered by a petrol tanker that overturned in front of a commercial bank, spreading panic throughout the area.

Several eyewitnesses reported that the tanker driver lost control, which led to the accident. The petrol spillage flowed through drainage systems, reaching a nearby community and setting off a massive blaze.

Speaking on the incident, an eyewitness identified as Wasiu said: “What I saw was that the tanker was swaying before it fell and spilt its contents into the drainage. Some hoodlums started scooping the fuel before the fire broke out from the other side of the expressway.”

He added that several vehicles and buildings were affected by the fire. In a statement issued by Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, confirmed the tanker drivers incident and the extent of the fire damage.

“The fire reached the Osadol Petrol Station, damaging trucks parked outside. The truck driver has been taken to Real Divine Touch Hospital in Ibafo for medical treatment,” Odutola stated.

The fire has left several people injured and caused severe property damage. Emergency services were quick to respond, but the fire had already spread to a wide area.
