Nigeria has experienced yet another nationwide blackout due to the collapse of its national grid system.

This latest blackout marks the sixth grid collapse in 2024 alone.

The frequent grid collapses have raised concerns about the reliability and stability of Nigeria’s electricity infrastructure, prompting calls for urgent measures to address the issue and prevent future occurrences including outright sack of the Minister of Power, Mr Adebayo Adelabu, whom many maintain has failed the nation woefully in this national assignment.

It was gathered that all distribution companies in the country are currently receiving no power from the grid, leaving their feeders without electricity.

The Eko Electricity Distribution Company has also confirmed the development.

The company made this known in a press statement issued on Monday.

The statement reads in part: “Dear Valued Customer,

“Kindly be informed there was a system collapse at 18:48hrs, which has resulted in a loss of power supply across our network.

“We are currently working with our partners as we hope for speedy restoration of the grid. We will keep you updated as soon as the power supply is restored. Kindly bear with us.”

The New Diplomat reports that before the latest development, the national grid collapsed on August 5, 2024.

The country was also plunged into darkness due to the grid failure on 6 July 2024.

Also, the country suffered another nationwide blackout on March 28.

On April 14, the nation’s electricity grid experienced another system collapse.

The national electricity grid, on February 4, collapsed for the first time in 2024. When will Power Minister guarantee stable Power supply?
