President Bola Tinubu has charged the Nigerian Armed Forces to confront the nation’s adversaries with increased gallantry and sophistication.

The call was made during the combined passing out parade of the 71 Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), where 823 officers from the Army, Navy, and Air Force were commissioned.

Tinubu, represented by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr Tajudeen Abbas, emphasized the need for professionalism and dedication from the nation’s elite military.

He added that Nigeria’s military plays a crucial role in ensuring the nation’s stability, urging the cadets to embrace loyalty, commitment, and service as they embark on their military careers.

It would be recalled that Nigeria has been facing numerous challenges, including economic decline, unemployment, and insecurity.

While weighing in on these challenges, Tinubu stated: “We are the giant of Africa and must remain so,” reiterating the importance of maintaining focus in military operations under a democratic dispensation.

“Nigeria is faced with multiple challenges that have attempted to destroy nationhood,” he lamented, noting that his administration was more determined than ever to unite and secure the country.

He also directed the leadership of the armed forces to develop policies that would alleviate the suffering of widows and families of fallen soldiers.

He added: “Each time the government casts an eye into military barracks, what strikes it most is the number of widows and their children whose husbands sacrificed their lives for the survival of the nation.

“Since independence, Nigeria has had a mixed history of turbulence and fortune, but my administration is determined to unite the country, where no one should be an exception. Wherever and whenever the nation comes calling, you will answer.”

As the country continues to grapple with its challenges, Tinubu reiterated his government’s resolve to address the root causes of insecurity and improve the living conditions of Nigerians. “We need the cooperation of all Nigerians for better answers in our interest,” he concluded.
