Reports emerging at the weekend have revealed that the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) reportedly arrested the immediate past Governor of Taraba State, Darius Ishaku at his private residence in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory(FCT).

It was gathered that the immediate past governor was arrested over an alleged connection with an N27 billion fraud case.

According to reports, Ishaku was reportedly picked up at his Abuja residence in the early hours of Friday.

An insider source who spoke word the press revealed that the EFCC has reportedly drafted at least 15-count charges against Ishaku and he would be arraigned in court soon.

The alleged offences were said to have occurred between 2015 and 2021, which involved allegations of misappropriation of public funds belonging to both the Taraba State Government and Local Government Councils, respectively

Ishaku was accused of diverting N1.01 billion from the 2.5% contingency fund of the Bureau of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Taraba State, between August 2015 and March 2016.

The source said: “Yes, he’s in our custody right now. We have been investigating him covertly since he left as the State governor. There is a lot of financial malfeasance he perpetrated.”

It would be recalled that Ishaku served as governor of Taraba state between 2015-2023, after competing two year term. He is an Architect and an urban planner by profession. The erstwhile governor who turned 70 in July this year has also been a university lecturer prior to his decision to join politics.
