The immediate past Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege has congratulated Senator Monday Okpebholo on his emergence as the governor-elect of Edo state following his victory in the Edo state governorship election.

Omo-Agege, the 2023 governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State and the Obarisi of Urhobo land said the victory of Okpebholo at the Edo state governorship candidate is an endorsement of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He said the victory is a testament that the Nigerian people are satisfied with Tinubu’s economic road map to returning Nigeria to the path of prosperity.

Omo-Agege, the Obarisi of Urhoboland, in a congratulatory message signed by his media adviser, Sunny Areh, appreciated the Edo electorate, assuring that Okpebholo will deliver all his electoral promises.

The statement reads in part: “When an election comes up almost at the mid-term point of an administration, it is akin to a referendum on the administration.

“The outcome is a testament to the sophistication of Edo voters, and I believe the Nigerian electorate, that is not appreciated by political leaders but unravelled in Saturday’s election.

“The people of Edo State have once again demonstrated their political sophistication. They always look at the bigger picture and I congratulate them.”

Omo-Agege urged the people to continue to support the Tinubu administration, stressing that the economic policies are the roadmap to returning Nigeria to the path of economic prosperity and greatness.

The New Diplomat reports that Okpebholo secured 291,667 votes to defeat Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who got 247,274 votes and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP), who came a distant third in the race with 22,763 votes.

Okpebholo of the APC won 11 local government areas, while Ighodalo won 7 leaving Akpata with none.
