The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun the announcement of results of Saturday’s governorship election of Edo state.

The New Diplomat reports that 17 parties contested for the September 21st election as candidates battle to take over the reins of leadership from incumbent Governor Godwin Obaseki whose tenure ends in November.

Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s Monday Okpebholo, and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP) are the major contenders for the battle.

*PDP:* 9,339 votes

*APC:* 8,776 votes

*LP:* 769 votes

Owan West LGA

*APC:* 12,277 votes

*PDP:* 11284 votes

*LP:* 201 votes

*Esan West LGA*

*APC:* 12,952 votes

*PDP:* 11, 004 votes

*LP:* 342 votes

*Igueben LGA*

*PDP:* 8,470 votes.

*APC:* 5,907 votes
