Eligible voters in Ewohimi, particularly in Okaegben ward one, polling units 3 and 15, have protested what they called the late arrival of officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and voting materials during the ongoing Edo governorship election.

It would be recalled that the polling unit in question is where the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo, is expected to cast his vote.

The concerned voters expressed dissatisfaction, fearing that the delay could disrupt the voting process.

One of the voters, Mr. Christopher Adoghe, said: “This is past 10 a.m., and up till now, we have not seen INEC officials and materials in polling unit three where the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate is expected to vote. From here, you can also see unit 15—there are no materials or INEC officials. From the information reaching us, most of the polling units in Ewohimi are experiencing the same issue. No INEC officials, no materials.”

According to him: “Many elderly voters had been left standing in the rain as the officials failed to arrive on time. “Look at old men and women out in the rain but no INEC officials to commence voting at 10:30 a.m.”

Another voter, Mr. Monday Victor, also expressed his frustration over the delay. He called on INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu to ensure that officials were sent to various polling units in Ewohimi without further delay.

However, at the time of filing this report, INEC officials had arrived at the affected polling units, and the voting process had commenced.
