The indigenes of Ijesaland have been thrown into a state of mourning following the death of Owa Obokun of Ijeshaland, Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran has joined his ancestors.

The 87-year-old Oba Aromolaran who is an eminent economist and author groundbreaking books on Economics which were used as textbooks many years back was said to have been admitted to Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, Osun State, for an undisclosed ailment, where he passed away on Wednesday evening.

A palace chief, the Asiwaju of Ijesaland, Chief Olayinka Fasuyi, has also confirmed the demise of the Monarch in a statement issued on Thursday.

The statement reads in part: “An era comes to an abrupt end! A monumental history closes.

“The torch bearer of Oduduwa relocates. The symbol of Obokun Adimula transits. Ijesaland celebrates the life of her idol, our Imperial Majesty. We eulogise the reign of our Owa Obokun Adimula and applaud the legacy of our paramount ruler. The 42 years of monumental reign come to a glorious end. Ijesa women and men, young and old, at home and in diaspora, in unison, say adieu to our Baba, Oba (Dr) Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran 11, CFR, LL.D, the Owa Obokun Adimula and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland.”

The New Diplomat reports that Oba Adekunle ascended the throne on February 20, 1982, from the Aromolaran family, and reigned for 42 years on the throne.
