The Haitian Futures Summit, co-sponsored by Afro4UN, a coalition of Black organizations, Afrofuturists, Futurists, and civil society organizations from around the world, holds in New York, USA, on September 21, 2024, as part of the United Nations Summit of the Future 2024.

Afro4UN was created by the African American Future Society (TAAFS) in collaboration with other groups to highlight the future of Black communities worldwide and drive global attention to the challenges facing Black people as well as the opportunities available to them, with a focus on innovative solutions and sustainable development.

The UN Summit of the Future is scheduled for September 22-23, 2024, in New York City with Heads of State and Governments as well as other global leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders from all over the world coming together to discuss and shape the future of sustainable development.

The Haitian Futures Summit, which will be among the side events being packaged by Afro4UN as part of the UN Summit on the Future, according to a notice by Yul Anderson, President of TAAFS, will feature hybrid panel discussions, focusing on the future of Black communities and the role of youth in driving change.

The Haitian Futures Summit will also feature experts making multi-media presentations on the way forward for Haiti and its people, and by extension, all People of African Descent worldwide.

In alignment with the UN Summit on the Future’s goals, the Haitian Futures Project, has already issued the Haitian Futures Declaration, which emphasizes the need for a paradigm shift in addressing Haiti’s challenges, moving from traditional approaches to innovative, community-driven solutions.

The declaration, which will be officially unveiled during the Haitian Futures Summit, also calls for the participation of everyday people, the diaspora, stakeholders, and policymakers in co-developing sustainable futures for Haiti.

The Haitian Futures Project, the statement further said, is dedicated to empowering the Haitian community through education, advocacy, and sustainable development initiatives. “Our mission is to create a brighter future for Haiti by fostering innovation, collaboration, and resilience,” it stressed.

Starting off at 10:00am on September 21, 2024, the Haitian Futures Summit will hold with multimedia presentations on different aspects of Haitian Futures. There will be a Haitian Futures Keynote Address and a presentation on “Envisioning a Viable and Vibrant Haiti in 2050 through Community Development Corporations.”

There will also be presentations on “Haitian Diaspora Breaking Through New Scientific Frontiers to Influence Haiti’s Future,” “Haiti Public Infrastructure Network Node – Digital Compact,” “Haiti’s Blue Economy and Small Island Survival,” and “The Future of National Security and Economic Security in Haiti.”

All relevant political and scientific institutions, funding agencies, and individuals are invited to participate in the Haitian Futures Summit, support the Haitian Futures Declaration and join in creating a sustainable and independent future for Haiti.

“By working together, we can reframe the global perspective on Haiti and ensure that the voices of its people are heard and respected,” the statement said, urging interested partners to get more information about the Haitian Futures Project and its participation in the UN Summit of the Future at its website: http://haitianfutures.com or contact its promoters at info@taafs.com.
