Immediate past President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari has expressed sympathies with the government and people of Borno State, as well as other states affected by the severe floods caused by persistent rainfall.
In a statement released by his spokesperson, Mr Garba Shehu, on Tuesday, Buhari described the floods as a “national calamity.”
According to Shehu, the former president expressed deep concern over the widespread destruction of homes, farmlands, and the tragic loss of life across certain states. He acknowledged the distress caused by the floods and hoped that the relief measures implemented by the various governments would bring comfort to those affected.
It would be recalled that Maiduguri, the Capital of Borno state has been the centre of attention following massive flood which wrecked devastation on many homes, communities and impacted negatively on many persons. The flood was attributed to an overflow of Alau Dam. Many essential facilities in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital were also said to be heavily damaged.
While sympathizing with victims, Buhari called on all to rally round the victims.The former president was quoted as saying: “My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this natural disaster”. Buhari who further expressed solidarity with the victims, urged all to take swift action in order to help those who have lost family members and livelihoods resume their normal lives.
