Following public criticism, the Department of State Services (DSS) has yielded to pressure and subsequently released Comrade Joe Ajaero, the National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
Pro-democracy activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress(AAC) Omoyele Sowore, made this revelation in a tweet on Monday night.
Sowore tweeted: “BREAKING: The fascist regime of @officialABAT has released the @NLCHeadquarters President Joe Ajaero from @OfficialDSSNG custody on bail.”
Also, the New Diplomat learnt that the labour leader was released at around 11 pm on Monday.
He was released after he was grilled for about 15 hours since his arrest around 7 am at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
It was also gathered that the DSS seized the travel passport of Ajaero.
It would be recalled that Ajaero was arrested on his way to the United Kingdom on Monday for a Trade Union Congress (TUC) at Abuja airport.
Since the arrest, the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and Amnesty International, among the hosts of others, have condemned the security agency, demanding Ajaero’s immediate release.
