Radical Lagos based lawyer and eminent human rights activist, Mr Femi Falana (SAN) has written to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, requesting him to immediately order a probe and prosecution of operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) involved in the invasion of the Abuja office of the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP).

Falana, in a statement issued on Monday, asserted that Nigeria is under democratic rule and, as such, unlawful invasion won’t be tolerated.

He noted that the Federal Government must ensure that the rights of every citizen are protected, including its critics.

He stated: “I condemn the invasion of SERAP’s office.

“The Tinubu government must urgently fish out the officers who invaded SERAP’s office in the name of the government.

“Anyone found to be responsible for the invasion must be prosecuted. The government must allow human rights defenders to freely carry out their work, consistent with the Nigerian Constitution.”

It would be recalled that SERAP had raised an alarm that its Abuja office was invaded by operatives of the DSS. The human rights organization also reported that the DSS personnel arrived and demanded to see the directors, indicating an intention to arrest them.
