The woes of Hunter Biden, the son of the President of the United States, have continued to compound as he risks being sentenced to a 17-year jail term after pleading guilty in a tax evasion trial on Thursday.

Hunter, a 54-year-old, during court proceedings, pleaded guilty to a nine-count charge bordering on alleged failure to pay $1.4 million in taxes over the past decade.

Biden had originally intended to submit an “Alford plea,” where he’d accept the guilty verdict while maintaining his innocence.

However, it appears his legal team changed the move, as the President’s son entered an “open plea”.

Meanwhile, US District Judge Mark Scarsi has set sentencing for December 16. Biden faces up to 17 years in prison and a fine of over $1 million.

This comes after Hunter became the first child of a sitting U.S. president ever to be convicted in a criminal trial when he was convicted by a Delaware Federal Court in Wilmington.

It would be recalled that the President’s son was convicted on all three charges preferred against him in the handgun purchase case of 2018.
