Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, a lawmaker representing Borno South Senatorial district of Borno state in the Senate, has advised the Nigerian Military to intensify its efforts in defeating remaining members of Boko Haram who are still hibernating around Sambisa forests, Mandara mountains and other hideouts in border communities within Gwoza and the Republic of Cameroon.
Ndume made this known during his distribution of empowerment materials to farmers in Gwoza town in Borno State
According to the lawmaker, some Boko Haram members are still perpetrating deadly attacks. He noted that the pockets of attacks have been posing serious economic setbacks to resilient farmers who want to go to their farmlands.
He said: “Sincerely, the renewed pockets of attacks recently perpetrated by insurgents have posed serious economic setbacks to our resilient farmers who were newly resettled in liberated communities of Ngoshe, Kirawa, Warabe, Wala, Pulka and even Gwoza town, the Council headquarters. This is because the terrorists resorted to looting their unmatured crops without confrontation.
“I want to use this medium to appeal to the military and other security agencies to intensify more efforts aimed at clearing remnants of terrorists still hibernating in Sambisa Forests and parts of the Mandara Mountains bordering the Cameroon Republic and Nigeria.”
The former Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Army expressed his deep gratitude to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State for his extraordinary contributions to the development and rebuilding of about 10 Gwoza communities that were destroyed.
He also applauded the efforts and sacrifices made by the Nigerian military in restoring civil authority in the area.
Ndume also hailed the deployment of a medical doctor by the military authority, who is providing medical services daily free of charge to over 10,000 Ngoshe community and its environs people who have since returned to their ancestral homes.
