German coach Bruno Labbadia has rejected his appointment as head coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles just three days after it was announced by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) on August 27, 2024. The 58-year-old’s withdrawal was first reported by a German news outlet

According to reports, Labbadia had been in negotiations with the NFF for a week but ultimately decided against signing the contract. According to news reports by SaharaReporters, a United Ststes based digital newspaper , it was learn’t that the NFF prematurely and hurriedly announced the appointment without a signed agreement.

It would be recalled that on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, the NFF tweeted the news of the appointment through its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, stating that they had reached an agreement with Labbadia to take over as head coach of the Super Eagles. The announcement, approved by the NFF Executive Committee, included a statement from the federation’s General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, confirming the decision.

Labbadia was set to become the 37th head coach of the Super Eagles, following the resignation of former coach Finidi George earlier in August 2024.
