President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday announced the appointment of Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed as the new Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).

He succeeds the outgoing NIA DG, Ambassador Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, who had tendered his resignation letter to Tinubu on Saturday.

The New Diplomat reports that Ambassador Mohammed has a distinguished career in the foreign service. He joined the NIA in 1995. In the course of his career, he has held various key positions, including serving as a Director and later head of the Nigerian diplomatic mission to Libya. A graduate of Bayero University, Kano, Ambassador Mohammed has also served in North Korea, Pakistan, and Sudan, as well as at the State House in Abuja.
