The Immediate past Deputy President of the Senate and the Obarisi of Urhoboland, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege has congratulated Professor Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, Senior Advocate Nigeria (SAN), on his emergence as the Asagba-designate of Asaba, Delta State.

Omo-Agege, the 2023 governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, declared that Azinge, the 5th Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS), is best fit to emerge as monarch of the Royal stool.

Omo-Agege, in a statement issued by his Media Adviser, Sunny Areh, also wished Azinge a peaceful and prosperous reign.

The statement reads in part: “On behalf of my family and associates, I rejoice with you on your selection as the Asagba-designate. Your pedigree as a legal luminary has seen you reach the height of your career as a professor of law and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria,” Senator Omo-Agege said.

Omo-Agege noted that as Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, the Asagba-designate “charted the path for a new generation of top-class legal minds in Nigeria. Even as a first-class academic, you have remained a bastion of the customs and traditions of the Asaba kingdom. Your emergence, therefore, as Asagba of Asaba, comes at a time when our cultural and traditional values need a revival and guidance that must be driven by the real custodians of these values as your exalted self.

“I congratulate you and the great and peace-loving people of Asaba on the excellent choice. Your emergence bodes well not only for Asaba but also for Delta State. I wish you a long and prosperous reign in excellent health for the good of your people.”

The New Diplomat reports that Azinge recently emerged as the Asaba monarch-designate as he is set to become the 14th Asagba of the Asaba Kingdom in Delta State

The Asagba-in-Council made this announcement on Sunday, stating that Azinge emerged as the most qualified among the 10 contenders in the race for the royal stool.

The contenders hail from Ugbomanta Quarters, whose turn it is of the five quarters (ebos) of Asaba Kingdom to produce the next Asagba, who will rule in the stead of Obi (Prof) Chike Joseph Edozien, the 13th Asagba of Asaba who had joined his ancestors earlier in the year.
