President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended felicitations to a former Head of State, General Ibrahim Babangida, as he celebrates his 83rd birthday on Saturday, August 17, 2024.

Tinubu, in a congratulatory letter signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale congratulated the elder statesman for marking the day in good health and peace of mind.

The President praised Babangida, saying that his endeavours toward the development of the nation, especially in infrastructure and other areas, cannot be overemphasized.

Tinubu also lauded the former military President’s efforts in the completion of the Third Mainland Bridge, which at the time was the longest bridge in Africa.

The statement reads in part: “The President acknowledges the role of General Babangida in the sculpting of modern Nigeria and commends him for his services to the nation.

“President Tinubu wishes the former head of state many more years in good health,” said Ngelale.

The New Diplomat reports that Babangida, fondly called IBB, was Nigeria’s military president from 1985 to 1993.
