Vice President Kamala Harris has emerged in the driving seat ahead of the presidential election of the United States, leading former President Donald Trump by five points, according to the latest poll by Reuters/Ipsos.
In the latest poll, Harris has surged to a five-point, putting her at 42 per cent to Trump’s 37 per cent nationally in less than three months to go to November’s presidential election.
The New Diplomat reports that this is a sharp surge in the fate of the Democrats as the vice president changed the election race since mid-July when President Joe Biden dropped his reelection bid.
Before Harris entered the race, Biden, according to several opinion polls, was behind by a significant number in the national popular vote.
However, Harris has been able to recover the lost ground as her candidacy is now deemed to be the popular choice among most Americans.
This development comes days before a debate between Harris and Trump scheduled to be held on September 10, setting up the first face-to-face match-up between the two heavyweights.
