A former member of the Delta State House of Assembly and the immediate past Commissioner for Technical Education in the State, Hon. Joan Mrakpor has been reportedly freed from captivity.

According to reports, Mrakpor, a former member representing Aniocha/Oshimili Federal constituency, Delta State, at the House of Representatives, reportedly regained her freedom on Thursday.

While the police haven’t released any official statement on the development, Mrakpor is said to be receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

It would be recalled that Mrakpor was abducted on Tuesday, July 30. She was abducted in a Church located off Delta Broadcasting Service, DBS Asab, where she worships at about 5. pm on Tuesday.

The armed men who kidnapped the former commissioner reportedly took her to a waiting speed boat at the bank of the River Niger and sped off to an unknown destination.

It was learnt that the gunmen who reportedly brought her to the bank of the River Niger at Otu-Ogwu road of Asaba in a car set the vehicle ablaze before taking her into the speed boat.

Two persons, including her police orderly were killed in the bloody operation.

Mrakpor, known as Ada Anioma, was a prominent figure in Delta State politics. She served as a member representing the Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives. Mrakpor also held the position of Commissioner in Delta State, where she was known for her advocacy for women’s rights and community development.

A lawyer by profession, Mrakpor is respected for her contributions to lawmaking and her dedication to public service. She is particularly admired for her efforts to empower women in politics and her work on initiatives aimed at improving the lives of her constituents.
