The Gombe State Police Command has officially confirmed the arrest of 111 individuals for their suspected involvement in the display of Russian flags and engagement in acts of vandalism during the #EndBadGovernance demonstrations in the state.

This was revealed by the Gombe police Command spokesman, Buhari Abdullahi.

Abdullahi, who spoke with the press on Wednesday, disclosed that the state Police command has begun an investigation into the development to ascertain the people responsible for the production of the Russian flags.

He explained that the display of another country’s flag by protesters was disrespectful to our national symbols and amounted to a treasonable felony act.

He said: “On the 5th of August, we saw an unsettling display of foreign flags by some protesters.

“This act is not only disrespectful to our national symbol but also a treasonable felony-related offence.

“Hence, 10 suspects were arrested flying Russian flags, and they are under investigation.”

According to him, some of the individuals in police custody were arrested over allegations of violent behaviour and attacks on security operatives.

He explained further: “The violent manner and the attacks include the officers that are diligently maintaining public safety, leading to the serious injury to the police officers and damage to police patrol vehicles.

“The looting of both public and private property during these protests is a grave concern. For instance, Gombe State Revenue Tribunal, Bima Lodge, Gombe State Bureau for Public Service Reform, Nital Company, and Blue J Motors, among others.

“Such actions not only undermine the rule of law but also disrupt communities and harm businesses.”

The spokesman further assured members of the public of police protection and urged them to continue their lawful daily activities without fear.
