Tensions have escalated as officers of the Nigeria Police stationed at the Eagles Square in Abuja reportedly fired teargas and pepper spray at protesters under the auspices of #EndBadGovernance nationwide protests.
Reports had it that a heated argument broke out between the protesters and the police.
The police operatives had informed the protesters that they were not allowed to hold their demonstration at Eagles Square.
The Police explained that they had no approval to use the venue. However, the protesters wouldn’t agree, and it resulted in a heated debate.
The Police, in turn reportedly fired teargas to disperse the protesters. The New Diplomat reports that thousands of Nigerians have taken to the streets across the country to protest against what they described as “bad governance.”
The organizers of the protests state that the demonstration is intended to convey their grievances to the Federal Government regarding the high cost of living.
