In order to make their grievances known, protesters have finally taken to the streets in Ikeja, Lagos State.

It was learnt that the protesters began demonstrations from Ikeja Under Bridge to Allen Avenue and then to the Oregon area of Lagos State.

Amidst the peaceful protests, participants have been cautioned to remain vigilant against potential infiltrators.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday, August 1, a seasoned protester in his late 50s, who has participated in numerous protests across Nigeria, warned of the presence of individuals with questionable motives.

He stated: “Nigerians have to be careful. I have seen many ungenuine activists in this ongoing protest, and their intentions might not be pure. Some of the people I have seen in this protest are the same individuals who caused havoc during the October 2020 EndSARS protest, and they might want to repeat the same havoc. It might not be today, but subsequently, as the protest proceeds.”

It would be recalled that the #EndBadGovernance protests scheduled for August 1, 2024, is aimed at expressing widespread dissatisfaction of concerned Nigerians against the Tinubu-led government’s economic policies, says the organisers of the protests.

Despite calls to put off the protests, organizers, including various civil society groups and youth organizations, have chosen to go ahead with their planned protests against rising poverty, corruption, and the increasing suffering of ordinary Nigerians.
