President Bola Tinubu’s meeting with Governors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) under the banner of the Progressives Governors Forum on Thursday has sparked speculations concerning its purpose.
The meeting, which began at 1 pm at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, took place amid increasing calls for nationwide protests against the rising costs of living in Nigeria.
The planned protests, hashtagged ‘EndBadGovernance’, have gained popularity across social media platforms since their announcement. The event is scheduled to last for ten days, from August 1 to 10.
Although the federal government is yet to reveal what was discussed, The New Diplomat reports that reactions have connected the forum’s agenda with the fast-approaching protests.
Tinubu’s meeting followed the Nigeria Governors’ Forum meeting on Wednesday night and coincided with the last-minute cancellation of the National Economic Council meeting scheduled for noon on Thursday.
Reports also noted the presence of the Ministers of Finance, Wale Edun, Budget & Economic Planning, Abubakar Bagudu, and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
