Preparatory to his birthday, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has requested that well-wishers channel their resources towards helping the poor and needy.

Obi will be 63 on Friday, July 19, 2024. The spokesman for the Peter Obi Movement for Renewal (POMR), Yunusa Tanko, released a press statement where Obi emphasized how crucial it is to focus efforts on helping the least fortunate.

He reiterated this message on his X handle, calling for a solemn celebration amidst widespread hardship.

“As is customary, my birthday is a time for personal reflection and gratitude to Almighty God for life, health, and the chance to contribute to humanity’s betterment,” Obi wrote.

He expressed humility at the outpouring of birthday greetings and events being planned in his honor from both local and international supporters.

However, Obi urged his supporters, especially those in Nigeria and other African countries , to use his birthday as an occasion to pray for their nations and to present themselves to God as dedicated political leaders.

He called for sacrifices and the utilization of public resources for the greater good, prioritizing the needs of the poor and marginalized, and enhancing opportunities for youth.

Specifically, Obi requested that funds intended for birthday celebrations be redirected to help the needy, particularly in hospitals and schools.

He also encouraged the donation of birthday gifts to care homes, schools, and hospitals, which would greatly benefit from such generosity.

“I have personally redirected resources that would have been used for celebrations to support health, education, and poverty alleviation,” Obi added.

He expressed confidence that these sacrifices would be rewarded by God.Thanking his supporters for their kind thoughts and prayers, Obi urged them to remain loyal to Nigeria and their respective countries.

“May God Almighty protect, bless, and prosper you and your loved ones, as well as our beloved nation,” he said.
