The Kano State House of Assembly on Tuesday passed a bill seeking the establishment of 2nd class Emirates in the state, into law.

The bill was passed into law after scaling through the first, second and third reading.

The bill which was sponsored by the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly and member representing Rimin Gado/Tofa state constituency, Muhammad Bello Bututu, provides for the establishment of Kano as a first-class emirate and other second-class emirates of Rano, Gaya and Karaye.

The bill scaled through its first reading during a plenary of the House in June.

During plenary on Tuesday, the bill also scaled through the second and third reading.

Following this development, the Deputy Speaker then moved a motion for the bill to be adopted and passed into law.

After a majority vote from the members of the house, the Speaker Jibril Falgore, hit the gravel, passing the bill.

The New Diplomat reports that the new second-class emirates to be created include Rano Emirate: Rano-Bunkure, Kibiya; Karaye Emirate: Karaye-Rogo; Gaya Emirate: Gaya-Ajingi, Albasu.

This comes amid the Emirship tussle that has rocked the throne of the Emir of Kano.

The New Diplomat reports that Kano State has been witnessing massive games of thrones after Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf signed some changes in the Kano State Emirate Council Bill into Law 2024.

The newly- signed law dissolved four new Emirates in the State and restored Kano Emirate to its pre-2019 status on Thursday, May 23.

Yusuf also issued a reappointment letter to Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II on Friday, May 24, as the new Emir of Kano, and ordered the Emirs affected by the new law to vacate their palaces within 48 hours.
