Tension has once again gripped the residents of Rivers State as the faction of the state House of Assembly led by Martin Amaewhule has claimed that it has power of shutting down all expenditure of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The factional Assembly believed to be loyal to the former Governor of Rivers state and incumbent Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike said the decision is hinged on the failure of Fubara to present the state’s budget before its House.

The motion to shut down any spending or the expenditure incurred by Fubara was moved by the Leader of the House Major Jack, during plenary on Monday.

Jack raised the motion informing the House about the expiration of the seven-day ultimatum given to the governor to present the 2024 budget before the House.

After deliberation, the House voted to shut down the Rivers State Consolidated Revenue Account. According to this faction, they believe that with this they can prevent Governor Fubara’s administration from spending any money on behalf of the state.

The New Diplomat reports that this is coming after the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum given by the pro-Wike factional legislators to the governor to re-present the 2024 budget.

It would be recalled that following the political crisis which started after Fubara and Wike fell apart.
