President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the Chairman of THISDAY Newspaper and the ARISE NEWS Channel, Prince Nduka Obaigbena, as he celebrates his 65th birthday today, July 14, 2024.

The president in a statement issued by his special adviser on media and publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, extolled Obaigbena’s enterprising spirit.

He also acknowledged the former President of the Newspaper Proprietors’ Association of Nigeria’s significant contributions to the media industry in Nigeria having founded ThisWeek Magazine, which later led to the creation of THISDAY Newspapers and the Arise News Channel media Group.

Tnubu also prayed for greater achievements for the renowned publisher, acknowledging his passion for making a positive impact on society.

The New Diplomat reports that Obaigbena was born on July 14, 1959. He attended Edo College, Benin City, and the University of Benin. He attended the Graduate School of Business at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, and the Advanced Management Programme at the University of Cape Town.

He founded the Nigerian newspaper Thisday in 1995. In 2000 Obaigbena founded the annual Thisday Awards which honor those who made contributions to Nigerian society in the political arena, global business, Women of distinction, and leading figures in the Nigerian education sector.

In 2013 he launched an international TV news channel with an African focus, Arise News Channel, leading to the formation of Thisday newspapers/Arise TV Media Group.
