The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has charged the Inspector General of Police(IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, to immediately call the Martin Amaewhule-led faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly to order.

The party described the activities of the Amaewhule-led House as “disruptive”, raising alarm that the actions of the lawmakers loyal to the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, could snowball into a huge political crisis in the state.

In a press statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the PDP said the Assembly had been stripped of their membership in the Rivers State House of Assembly according to the provision of Section 109 (1) (g) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.

Ologunagba, in the statement also described the issuance of a seven-day deadline, which asked that the Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, to re-present the 2024 budget of the state, as Illegal and could only bring about crisis and disruption of the Constitutional Order in the State.

He maintained that the Pro-Wike Assembly members lost their seats immediately after they defected from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

That move, according to the statement released, has made them forfeit their rights to issue any ultimatum to the Rivers State governor.

The Party also urged the people of Rivers State to be watchful, abide by the law, and cooperate in maintaining stability, peace, and the values of democracy and the rule of Law.
