The Educational sector in Nigeria on Wednesday took a new turn as twelve more state-owned tertiary institutions were enrolled on the student loan application portal of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).

The NELFUND management released this information in a statement signed by its Head of Media and Public Relations.

Recall that President Bola Tinubu had on April 3, 2024, signed NELFUND bill into law under the Student Loans (Access to Higher Education) (Repeal and Re-enactment) Act, 2024.

The initiative has been hailed by some is a significant stride by the federal government to enable Nigerian students and other young individuals possess higher education knowledge and functional skills development.

The News Diplomat reports that the twelve new state government-owned universities and polytechnics completed both their submission and verification requirements of the financial institution.

It was also stated that the total number of the state-owned tertiary institutions have gone up from 36 to 48. On July 8, a report had earlier compiled 36 schools in total.

The NELFUND Managing Director, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, expressed his sincere gratitude to everyone who has submitted data thus fa.

To ensure that students take advantage of the programme, the Fund respectfully requests that all institutions that have not yet submitted their students data to the Student Verification Portal (SVS) do so.

Below is the list of the twelve (12) newly enlisted state government-owned tertiary institutions:
