A faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly led by Speaker Victor Oko-Jumbo has screened and confirmed the nomination of Emmanuel Frank-Fubara as a Commissioner in Rivers State.

Frank-Fubara was screened during plenary which was held at a the Hallowed Chamber, where the Assembly members are using for sitting, located in the Government House, Port Harcourt.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State had nominated him for a position in his cabinet.

Speaker Oko-Jumbo initiated the day’s proceedings by reading a correspondence from Fubara, requesting the screening of a commissioner nominee.

Frank-Fubara, a legal practitioner with 26 years of experience, was introduced into the chambers following the suspension of the House Rules.

Responding to questions, Frank-Fubara, from Abonnema in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, promised to leverage his experience for the development of the state.

His nomination was confirmed unanimously by voice vote.

The House also considered for the second time, the bills for the creation of a State Emergency Management Agency and the reform of the transport sector, respectively.

The New Diplomat reports that this is the third time the Oko-Jumbo-led State House of Assembly loyal to Fubara would be screening commissioner nominees.

It would be recalled also that nine commissioners, including the Commissioner for Education, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice and Finance believed to be loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, had resigned from Fubara’s cabinet.

The mass resignation came after an escalating feud between the governor and his predecessor, the latter being seen as an estranged political godfather.

The two political leaders had been at loggerheads since the last quarter of 2023.
