- Shehu Sani: “Some Elites In The North Are Planning To Unseat Tinubu In 2027″.
- El-Rufai’s Son to Sani: “You Have No Electoral Value”
By Abiola Olawale
A former senator representing Kaduna Central of Kaduna State at the Senate, Shehu Sani, and the family of former Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai are stacked in war of words over alleged plans to map out political schemes to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
The trouble began when Sani raised alarm over an alleged plot being orchestrated by some political elites in the North to unseat Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
The former lawmaker who spoke with the press on Friday said some of the Northerners have already met with former President Muhammadu Buhari to boost their presidential ambitions ahead of the forthcoming election.
Sani who failed to mention names of the said political elites in the North, however, issued a warning to them to shelve their alleged plans.
According to him, the alleged plan is capable of destroying the unity of Nigeria.
He said: “There is evidence of rallying of forces, regrouping of forces- political forces from the North- trying to use former President Buhari as a rallying point to evict the government of Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu and they hope to resurrect his political chance in the house of the masses and portray the government as one that has been undermining the North and one that has not been living up to its campaign promises to the region being that it has its highest votes from there. And I must warn you your attempt to do that can create a serious problem for our country.
“Buhari has been in power for eight years and there has never been any serious Southerner that challenged his government in terms of trying to remove him from office.
“And secondly, we should know that before you think of power, we should think of the whole country. We should be thinking of a united country, a peaceful country. Nigeria is still a fragile nation.
“What will happen if Southern politicians decide to also form the idea of uniting themselves and making a position that this is their stand? There will be no Nigeria.
“So, they should, in the interest of the unity of the country and the future of the country, sacrifice their ambition at least for 2027, and the North will have the moral right to ask for power after the second term of this administration,” Sani said.
Reacting swiftly, Bashir, the son of former Governor lambasted Sani for providing himself as a willing tool for propaganda by the Tinubu-led government.
Bashir said Sani’s comment is a sign that Tinubu and his supporters are already jittery ahead of the 2027 General election.
Reacting through a post on X, Bashir wrote: “Lmao. They are getting jittery & sending the wrongest person from the North to advocate for their propaganda, with absolutely no electoral value to his name but his old glory days of supposedly fighting for democracy & being locked in prison like he was Mandela.”
The New Diplomat reports that Sani’s statement comes a few hours after a former governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai met with a former governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
This meeting comes shortly after El-Rufai’s visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina State.
Also, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, and ex-Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto, have recently visited Buhari in his hometown.
