President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Mr. Tanimu Yakubu, a former economic adviser to late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, as the Director-General of the Budget Office of the Federation.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, Ajuri Ngelele, the appointment of Yakubu came after the expiration of the tenure of Mr Ben Akabueze.

Tinubu expressed confidence in Yakubu’s ability to further improve the provision of efficient and high-quality budgetary functions.

He also urged Yakubu to prioritize policies aimed at fostering fiscal sustainability, as well as promoting transparency and accountability in public finance management, all of which are essential for national development.

The New Diplomat reports that Yakubu who hails from Katsina studied economics at Wagner College, New York, US. He also holds a Master of Business Administration degree in Finance from Wagner College, Staten Island, New York.

He was the commissioner for finance during the administration of late Umaru Musa Yar’Adua as the governor of Katsina state.

When Yar’Adua was elected president in 2007, he appointed him as chief economic adviser.
