Following the sudden demise of Malawi’s Vice President, Saulos Chilima in a plane crash, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed his profound condolences with President Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi and the citizens of the country

The New Diplomat reports that Malawi Chilima, alongside nine other officials of the Malawi government were confirmed dead Tuesday , after a military plane carrying them mysteriously went missing on Monday., June 10, 2024.

In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu expressed shock at the development. The statement reads in parts: “President Bola Tinubu extends his sincere condolences to His Excellency, President Lazarus Chakwera, and the people of Malawi over the passing of Vice-President Saulos Chilima and other officials in a plane crash.”

It further added: “President Tinubu commiserates with the families of the deceased over this deeply distressing incident, which happened on a mournful Monday, June 10, 2024.”

“The President assures the Malawian nation of Nigeria’s support during this time of mourning and prays for the repose of the souls of the departed,” the statement concluded.

Meanwhile, Chakwera had earlier paid tribute to Chilima, describing him as “a good man”, a “devoted father” and a “formidable VP”.
