In a historic development, Imperial College London has emerged as the best University in the United Kingdom and as well as in the whole of Europe, beating both Oxford and Cambridge universities in latest ranking of universities globally.

Imperial, based in Kensington, London, has also now emerged as the second-best university in the world.

The latest QS World University Rankings showed that Imperial is second in the world, only behind Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) located in the United States.

According to the latest ranking, the University of Oxford is in third place while Cambridge ranked fifth, and University College London came ninth in the 2025 QS Worlworld-leadingRanking – meaning four of the top ten global universities are British.

The latest ranking attributed Imperial’s rise to its world-leading research, outstanding employability scores and exceptional commitment to sustainability.

Reacting to the rankings, Professor Hugh Brady, President of Imperial, said: “Imperial’s ranking is a testament to the quality and commitment of our entire community. It is inspiring to see our students, staff, and partners come together every day to interrogate the forces that shape our world and address the challenges facing humanity and our planet.”
