Indications have emerged that UK’s ambassador to Mexico, Jon Benjamin, might have left his post.

This comes after a viral video allegedly captured him pointing an assault rifle near a colleague.

According to reports, Benjamin was traveling in Sinaloa and Durango, two states in northern Mexico where drug cartels have a significant presence, when the alleged incident occurred.

The five-second clip was posted by an anonymous user along with the message, “In the context of daily killings in Mexico by drug dealers, he dares to joke.”

Although there hasn’t been any official announcement by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), as of press time, Benjamin is no longer listed as ambassador to Mexico on the government’s official website.

The website regarded Benjamin as a former ambassador, saying he was in post “between 2021 and 2024.”
