Former US President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has vowed to appeal the judgment that convicted him of falsifying business records.

Trump, who addressed a press conference on Friday, May 31, at Trump Tower in Manhattan, New York, said that his legal team has strong grounds to challenge the verdict handed down by a New York jury.

According to him, the verdict was unfair and unlawful. He also claimed that he wanted to testify, as was his legal right, but that he was not permitted to.

Trump said: “We’re going to be appealing this scam… on many different things.

“It was very unfair… You saw what happened to some of the witnesses that were on our side — they were crucified.”

The New Diplomat reports that Trump was found guilty on all charges in his New York “hush money” trial.

A jury found the Republican presidential frontrunner guilty of falsifying business records to conceal a $130,000 payment to adult porn star, Stormy Daniels, to buy her silence before the 2016 presidential election.

With the conviction, Trump becomes the first former president of the US to be convicted of a crime.

Trump’s sentencing date has been scheduled for July 11 by Judge Juan Merchan.
