- Kano State High Court Grants Order Restraining DSS, Police, Military From Evicting Sanusi

The ongoing dispute on the royal stool of the Emir of Kano has continued to generate confusion, as two High courts granted conflicting orders.
A Federal High Court sitting in Kano State on Tuesday, May 28, granted an interim injunction evicting Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II from the throne.
The presiding judge, Justice S. A. Amobeda, also granted an order, compelling the state government and the security agents to restore the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, to the throne.
The judge ruled: “An order of interim injunction restraining the Respondents from inviting, arresting, detaining, threatening, intimidating, harassing the Applicant, or infringing on his rights is hereby granted.”
“This order ensures that Emir Aminu Bayero enjoys all rights and privileges accrued to him by his position.”
However, in a conflicting development, a Kano State High Court granted an interim injunction, restraining the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigerian military from evicting the reinstated Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II.
The presiding judge, Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu, gave the ruling in reaction to a case filed by the Emir Sanusi, alongside with four kingmakers of Kano: Madakin Kano Yusuf Nabahani; Makaman Kano Ibrahim Sarki Abdullahi; Sarkin Bai Mansur Adnan and Sarkin Dawaki Maituta Bello Tuta.
Justice Aliyu also granted an order, refraining the security agencies from arresting or harassing Sanusi and his kingmakers.
Justice Aliyu ruled: “That an order of interim injunction is hereby granted restraining the Respondents either by themselves, their agents, privies, representative, and assigns from further harassing, intimidating, inviting, arresting and or invading the personal or official residence of the Applicants (Gidan Rumfa), his servants and or any of the Kano Emirate kingmakers of doing such acts that would be capable of interfering with the Applicants’ rights generally about this suit, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.
“That an order of interim injunction is hereby granted, restraining the Respondents from attempting to hijack, pick, commandeer, confiscate any of twin spear of authority, the Royal Hat of Dabo, the Ostrich-feathered shoes, the knife and sword of the Emir of Kano as well as symbols of authority pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.
“That an order of interim injunction is hereby made, restraining the Respondents from taking further steps in connection with the matter or maintaining status quo of staying all action pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice
“That it is further ordered that the Respondents are restrained from interfering with the functions, and duties of the 1st Applicant as the Emir of Kano, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice dated 28 May, 2024.”
The New Diplomat reports that Kano State has been witnessing massive games of thrones after Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf signed the Kano State Emirate Council Law 2024.
The newly- signed law dissolved four new Emirates in the State and restored Kano Emirate to its pre-2019 status on Thursday, May 23.
Yusuf also issued a reappointment letter to Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II on Friday, May 24, as the new Emir of Kano, and ordered the Emirs affected by the new law to vacate their palaces within 48 hours.
