- Police Vows To Abide By Court Ruling Halting Reinstatement Of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II

Massive tension is brewing in Kano State as the state Police Command has ignored the directive of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to arrest the deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, for allegedly disrupting the peace and threatening to cause a breach of public order by suddenly reappearing in Kano after being dethroned.
This is as the Kano Police Command said it will abide by the court ruling of the Federal High Court of the state, which barred the state government from reinstating Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II.
It would be recalled that Justice Mohammed Liman of the Kano State High Court had granted an ex-parte order halting the implementation of the new law that abolished the four emirates of Bichi, Gaya, Karaye, and Rano.
At a press briefing, the Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Usaini Gumel confirmed that the Command is adhering to a court order that mandates the status quo until a ruling on June 3rd, 2024.
He said: “The Police Command is expressly obeying the Court Order with SUIT No. FHC/KN/CS/182/2024 Dated 23rd May 2024 issued by the Federal High Court sitting in Kano alongside all Law Enforcement agents in the State.
“Therefore, we are calling on members of the public to know that the Police in the State are working together with the military and other security agencies and are at full capacity for providing adequate security to everyone as we are committed to carrying out our statutory duties as provided by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
This comes just a few hours after the Kano State Governor had ordered the arrest of the deposed Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero shortly after his arrival to the state early on Saturday.
The governor said Bayero was allegedly smuggled into Kano state in an attempt to usurp the throne, thereby creating tension in the state.
The New Diplomat reports that the Kano state House of Assembly had procedurally earlier this week passed a bill amending the Kano State Emirs (Appointment and Deposition) Law, which was previously employed by the immediate past governor Abdullahi Ganduje of the state to dethrone Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II as the 14th Emir of Kano.
Upon signing the repealed Kano Emirates Council Law, Yusuf legally and accordingly gave all the Emirs affected by the law, 48 hours to vacate their palaces and hand their relevant instruments over to the Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
The governor also announced that Sanusi had been reinstated as the Emir of Kano.
The governor issued a reappointment letter to Sanusi on Friday, and Sanusi led Jumat prayers at the Government House, Kano.
