  • Soldiers Reportedly Sighted At Deposed Emir Ado Bayero’s Palace

By Abiola Olawale

The Kano State Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has criticized the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, accusing him of aiding the deposed Emir Ado Bayero to allegedly create tension in Kano state.

Gwarzo who spoke at the Emir of Kano’s Palace on Saturday accused Ribadu of giving the deposed Emir two private jets to return to Kano State despite the directive of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

He said: “The National Security Adviser gave two jets to bring the dethroned emir to Kano and to bring him to the place. We have not understood their intention.”

It would be recalled that Bayero, who had been away from the state on a visit to the Awujale of Ijebuland in Ogun State, was welcomed back to Kano by a crowd in the early hours of Saturday and he moved into a mini palace in Nassarawa, an ancient town in Kano.

His aircraft landed at the Aminu Kano International Airport at 4:30 am.

Following his arrival in the state, a deployment of soldiers was sighted at the mini-palace of Bayero.

It was observed that a team of soldiers moved into his mini palace at Nasarawa, where the 15th Emir is located, following the directive of the governor, who ordered an immediate arrest of Bayero.

The development also comes after the Deputy governor had accused Ribadu of allegedly supporting Bayero to cause tension in Kano State.

The New Diplomat reports that the Kano state House of Assembly had earlier this week passed a bill amending the Kano State Emirs (Appointment and Deposition) Law, which was previously employed by the immediate past governor Abdullahi Ganduje of the state to dethrone Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II as the 14th Emir of Kano.

Upon signing the repealed Kano Emirates Council Law, Yusuf gave all the Emirs affected by the law, 48 hours to vacate their palaces and hand them over to the Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

The governor also announced that Sanusi had been reinstated as the Emir of Kano.

The governor issued a reappointment letter to Sanusi on Friday, and Sanusi led Jumat prayers at the Government House, Kano.
