- Kano Assembly Passes Bill Dissolving Four New Emirates Created By Ganduje

The stage may be finally set for the potential reinstatement of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano.
This is as the Kano State House of Assembly has amended the Kano State Emirs (Appointment and Deposition) Law, which was previously employed by former governor Abdullahi Ganduje of the state to dethrone Sanusi as the 14th Emir of Kano.
The Kano State House of Assembly, on Thursday, passed an amended bill dissolving all the four newly created emirate councils in the state.
The dissolution of the affected Emirates was a sequel to deliberations on the floor of the House during plenary on Thursday.
The Kano State Emirates Council Amendment Bill was considered on the floor of the House after scaling second and third reading on Thursday morning.
With the passage of the bill, Sanusi II is expected to be reinstated as the Emir of Kano if Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State assent to the amended bill.
The law abrogated all offices created under the repealed law, and if assented by Yusuf, it became law with insinuations emerging that the current Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, may be removed
Raising a motion during court plenary on Thursday, the Deputy Speaker, Muhammad Butu, stated that repealing the law passed by the administration of the former Governor of Kano state, Abdullahi Ganduje would revive the lost glory of Kano.
The lawmaker argued that the division of Kano emirate into five reduced the capacity and dignity of the state at the national level.
Also, the Majority Leader of the Kano State House of Assembly, Lawan Hussaini Chediyar Yan Gurasa, in his submission stated that the emirate council served as a custodian of culture which was distorted by the creation of the four additional emirates.
Following exhaustive deliberations, the House also adopted a motion to abolish all four new emirate councils, leaving only the Kano Emirate.
It would be recalled that in May, the Kano State House of Assembly had initiated steps to amend the Kano State Emirs (Appointment and Deposition) Law.
Former Governor Ganduje had split the Kano emirate into five and dethroned the then Emir of Kano, Alhaji Sanusi II.
Following the victory of the New Nigerian Peoples Party in last year’s election, Kwankwaso had said the government of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf would review the dethronement and balkanisation of the emirate.
Meanwhile, in a related development, operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agents stormed the palace of the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, as rumours of imminent deposition of the Emir thickened.
Though the Emir of Kano was said to be in Ogun State on a private visit to Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the security operatives were seen at the entrance of the palace to prevent any rancour from happening.
