President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has mourned the demise of Iranian President, Ebrahim Raisi and the Foreign Minister, Hossein Amirabdollahian who passed away in a fatal helicopter crash.

The New Diplomat reports that a total of nine people were on board the helicopter that crashed in a mountainous region of the country on Sunday.

Following the confirmation of their deaths, Tinubu has joined other world leaders across the globe to express heartfelt condolence messages to the Iranian people.

In a statement on Monday, presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale, quoted Tinubu as describing the demise of the Iranian president as a great loss for his people and the whole world at large.

He described Raisi as a passionate leader who only seeks the best for his people.

The statement reads in part: “President Bola Tinubu extends his condolences to the government and people of the Islamic Republic of Iran over the passing of President Ebrahim Raisi; Iranian foreign minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and other officials in a helicopter crash.

“President Tinubu expresses profound grief over this disturbing tragedy, and describes President Raisi as a leader who was passionately committed to the development of Iran.”
