Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested Ibrahim Abdullahi also known as Mandi, who is the alleged mastermind behind the violent assault on the Abuja-Kaduna passenger train in March 2022.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed this development during a press briefing in Kaduna on Thursday.
Adejobi noted that Mandi was apprehended during a collaborative raid between security agents in the country. He also said that 48 AK-47 rifles were allegedly seized during Mandi’s arrest and efforts are underway to identify his sponsor and supplier of weapons.
According to Adejobi, this arrest marks a significant breakthrough in the investigations into the unfortunate Abuja-Kaduna train attack.
The police spokesperson noted that the suspect allegedly participated in the abduction of students from Greenfield University in 2021.
The New Diplomat reports that On 28 March 2022, an Abuja–Kaduna train was attacked in Katari, Kaduna State, Nigeria. The incident occurred around 7:45 pm when hundreds of passengers traveling northwards on their way to Nigeria’s northwest were kidnapped in Katari, Kaduna State, while others were killed and injured by bandits who bombed an Abuja-Kaduna train.
