- To Rally Youths in Edo North…
By Abiola Olawale
A few hours after the impeachment of the former Deputy Governor of Edo state, Philip Shaibu, Governor Godwin Obaseki has appointed a 38-year-old Engineer, Omobayo Marvellous Godwin, as his new deputy.
Though the move was swift, it has also been perceived as shocking by some political gladiators in Edo state as Omobayo is said to be a member of the Labour Party.
The New Diplomat gathered that the appointment of Omobayo might be strategically aimed at pulling youths to the side of the Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the upcoming governorship election.
The political thinking is that Governor Obaseki, Ogie, Uzamare, and others locking up the South senatorial zone(the most populous zone in Edo state) against the APC while the Obidients reign in up North to divide votes, leaving the Central as the battleground zone as both gubernatorial candidates(PDP, APC with the exception of LP) hail from Esan, the electoral battle might look unsettling to many old guards.
Born July 19, 1986, Omobayo hails from Akoko Edo Local Government Area of the state.
The 38-year-old has a B.Eng Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and an MSc in Public Administration from the University of Benin (UNIBEN), preparing for the role of a professional and an expert in public administration.
The New Diplomat reports that Shaibu was impeached by the state’s House of Assembly on Monday.
According to the panel set up for the impeachment proceedings of the former deputy gov, Shuaibu was sacked for leaking the state government’s secrets and committing acts of perjury.
