An aspirant of the 2024 governorship election in Ondo State under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Paul Akintelure, has passed away.
Akintelure was confirmed dead in a hospital in Lagos after he battled chest pain for about four days.
The spokesperson of the APC in Ondo State, Oladapo Akintelure, confirmed the incident.
“It is true, I can confirm it. We will state it shortly.” the APC spokesperson said in a terse statement issued to the members of the press.
His demise came a few days after he had raised alarm about both direct and indirect threats to his life.
“Initially, I hoped these incidents would dissipate over time, yet regrettably, they have escalated to pose a serious threat to my life.
“The threats against me only strengthen my resolve to stand up for what is right and just. I will not allow fear to dictate our path forward,” Akintelure said in the statement.
Akintelure in 2012 ran as the deputy governorship candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) with Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
Before then, he had run for Ondo South senatorial election also under the ACN.
Akintelure was a Lagos-based private medical practitioner. He hailed from Igbotako in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State.
